MQM?s constitution changed, Altaf?s powers gone: Sattar
KARACHI: The MQM Pakistan head, Dr Farooq Sattar, has an**unced that MQM founder Altaf Hussain has been stripped of powers after Article 9B was omitted from the MQM’s constitution.
As per Article 9B in the past, the Tehreek’s founder had the power to hold the Rabita Committee meeting. But **w after a change in Article 9B, the convener of the Rabita committee can hold the meeting and if the convener is absent, the deputy convener can summon a meeting. The MQM Pakistan head, addressing a crowded press conference here at his residence on Thursday. Sattar said after this change, all the decisions and policies will **t be linked to London in any manner and decisions and policies will be made in Pakistan, adding a complete separation will be seen. This change was needed to show that there was ** more link of the MQM Pakistan with London, he added. Sattar said the MQM voters and supporters living in Pakistan or abroad had supported this change. He said the article 7B of the constitution had been substituted through which the convener will preside over all meetings of the committee. Sattar said this change was made after a detailed discussion with the Rabita Committee and central executive council since August 22, which was an unfortunate day for the MQM Pakistan. Sattar urged the rulers to accept the people who are raising slogans of Pakistan Zindabad as citizens of Pakistan and give them justice. He said the MQM Pakistan be given space and torture on in**cent people be stopped which, according to him, is a violation of the Constitution. The MQM Pakistan head demanded that a Grievance Rederessal Committee be formed so that there should **t be any violation of the Constitution. Sattar also demanded that families of 60 MQM workers allegedly murdered extrajudicially be provided justice and said that "130 missing persons of MQM" be recovered. He also demanded the release of MQM workers arrested on August 22 but **t identified in TV footages. Sattar also demanded that three women arrested on August 22 be also released and prime minister and Sindh chief minister had promised to provide relief in this regard. Sattar said the investigating ******r did **t come to court and the IO has been changed. "Where are these decisions being taken?" he asked. "We de**unce and dissociate ourselves from August 22 and regret it but if August 22 is repeated after five or 15 years, who will be de**unced," Sattar asked. "This is **t a justification. There is a great sense of deprivation among our voters and we feel as if we are **t Pakistanis." Sattar said if people were **t given space, reaction will come. "They do **t have any kind of basic facility, ** water, ** power. All citizens should be given equal rights." Sattar said the rulers had taken oath through the constitution of Pakistan to give equal rights to each and every citizen. Farooq said the MQM was **t being given space. "It looks that there is some other agenda," he said and demanded that the seal of 90 be opened and also Khursheed Memorial Hall be opened. He said all town ******s that were demolished were legal. He still **w sector and unit in-charges were being arrested and also Rabita Committee members were being detained. "This should be stopped." Sattar said even the local government members were **t being given powers. He said Karachi generates 70 percent revenue for the country and its resources be given to Karachi. "The MQM members be given space, torture be stopped and unan**unced political activities ban on the MQM be lifted." He said MPA Rauf Siddiqi had been arrested and demanded his release. He said the amendment in article 9B of MQM's constitution has been fully endorsed by the MQM Rabita Committee and the central executive committee fully endorsed the decision. Sattar said the RC pledges to eliminate crimes and terrorism and fully cooperate with law enforcement agencies. He again demanded powers for the local government.
