MQM walks out of NA against raids, arrest of workers
Ch Nisar says he will talk to Rangers, Sindh govt
ISLAMABAD: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) legislators on Wednesday walked out of the National Assembly against a raid on its ****** and arrest of its workers in Karachi. Earlier, Iqbal Muhammad Ali, speaking on a point of order, said the MQM was being pushed to the wall. He pointed out that the MQM ****** was raided on Tuesday in Karachi and arrests were made. Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, while responding to a point raised by Iqbal Muhammad Ali in the House, said he would talk to DG Rangers and the Sindh government for addressing the concerns of the MQM about harassment and arrests of its workers. He sought time for this purpose till today (Thursday) and said he would report back in the House. The House, meanwhile, adopted a motion authorising the National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq to appoint a committee in consultation with the chairman of the Senate and leaders of the parliamentary parties. The committee comprising up to 20 members to review NAB Ordinance 1999 would recommend necessary amendments. The committee would present its report within three months of its **tification. The motion on forming the committee to review the NAB Ordinance was moved by Law Minister Zahid Hamid. Meanwhile, Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training Muhammad Balighur Rehman told the House that the provinces had agreed on formulation of basic uniform syllabus. He said the National Curriculum Council has been established for this purpose and it is working on minimum consensus uniform syllabus in coordination with all the provinces, the AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan. He pointed out that a consensus syllabus was necessary to promote national cohesion. Replying to a question, he said 12,304 **n-formal Basic Education Community Schools are functioning across the country and about one million children are getting education in these schools. Balighur Rehman informed the House that an educational and technical university is being established in Islamabad and its PC-I has been prepared. He said a comprehensive skill training programme is also being implemented in the federal capital. He pointed out that for this purpose three vocational and technical training schools are already functioning and 12 more such schools will be established in Islamabad this year. In a written reply to a**ther question, the National Assembly was informed that 151 ******s of Pakistan Baitul Mal (PBM) are functioning to provide assistance to the needy people across the country. Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab Ahmad told the House during question hour that new ******s of PBM are established upon creation of new districts by the government. However, branches and centres of different PBM projects are established all over the country depending upon the requirement of the area and financial resources available. Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry informed the House that liver transplant facility was launched during the previous government at PIMS hospital but unfortunately it was **t successful. He said work is in progress to relaunch this facility at PIMS and expressed the hope that the facility will be started soon. He pointed out that facility of open heart surgery is available at PIMS. Answering a question, the minister of state said fresh recruitment of teachers particularly science teachers in educational institutions of the federal capital will soon be started.
