15 militants killed in Khyber Agency aerial blitz; ground operation carried out in Rajgal and Sattar Killi in Tirah
BARA: Fifteen suspected militants were killed and 12 sustained injuries when jet fighters pounded their hideouts in the Kukikhel area of Khyber Agency after More troops were deployed on the border with Afghanistan, official and local sources said on Tuesday. The sources said the jet fighters targeted the hideouts of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Lashkar-e-Islam-affiliated militants in Rajgal, Kheraba, Bagdara and other areas of the remote Tirah Valley. A ground operation was also carried out in the Rajgal and Sattar Killi areas of Tirah. At least 15 militants were killed and 12 others sustained injuries while five of their sanctuaries were also destroyed in the bombardment, official sources said.The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) through a statement said the “Operation Khyber 3” had been launched along the Pak-Afghan border to strengthen the troops’ deployment in the Rajgal area to effectively check and guard against terrorists’ movement. Most of the Bara-based militants had taken refuge in the far-off Tirah Valley after a military operation was launched against them in the Khyber Agency in the winter of 2014. Rajgal is situated along the border with Afghanistan’s Nazyan district in the Nangarhar province where the Lashkar-e-Islam head Mangal Bagh had established his base and from where he ran his anti-Pakistan FM radio channel. “The militants often cross into Afghanistan after carrying out terrorist activities in Pakistan,” said a local tribesman wishing **t to be named.Last week, security forces launched a full-fledged clean-up operation named “Khyber 3” to purge the area of militants.
