Pakistan to say goodbye to IMF
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the IMF are making efforts to conclude last review talks today (Thursday) after which Islamabad will formally an**unce goodbye to the Fund programme after its successful completion first time in the country’s history.
After conclusion of review talks under $6.4 billion Extended Fund Facility (EFF), Minister for Finance Ishaq Dar and IMF’s Mission Chief Herald Finger were expected to hold joint press conference in which Pakistan would an**unce its decision to exit from the IMF program after successful completion of any program first time in the country’s history. Earlier, during Musharraf/Aziz regime Pakistan had said goodbye to the IMF program without getting last tranche under Poverty Reduction and Growth Facility (PRGF) in 2003-4. “We are making efforts to conclude talks on Thursday (today) but it might continue till Friday (tomorrow),” one top official who is part of ongoing talks going on at Dubai told The News on telephone on Wednesday night. After striking agreement at Fund’s staff level, the IMF’s Executive Board was expected to hold its period after six weeks to approve the last tranche worth $130 to $135 million depending upon rate of special drawing rights (SDRs) against US Dollar. أكثر...
