2016 Emmy predictions

A quick look at actors and shows who could take away the top prize. The an**uncement for Emmy **minations, television’s most prestigious award ceremony, is just around the corner. Like every year, this year’s list will consist of same old favourites and some new ones, plenty of snubs as is tradition and will hopefully ack**wledge work that merits recognition. That said, as we get closer to the reveal date (July 14), some things have become pretty clear. Like we predicted earlier this year, the most competitive category belongs to the women, specifically the category of Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama ******. Though several actresses gave k**ck out performances last year such as Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black), Taraji P. Henson (Empire) and Keri Russell (The Americans), the short-list consists of just three names: Viola Davis (How to Get Away with Murder), Robin Wright (House of Cards) and Julianna Margulies, (The Good Wife) and anyone of these powerhouse performers could take the prize. Having won the trophy last year, Davis could take it again but Wright also has a decent shot given her chilling and layered performance in the last season of House of Cards. Meanwhile this is Margulies’s final shot at the trophy since The Good Wife has made its final departure after a seven-year run. In comparison, the category of Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama ******, is harder to predict given the many, many performances that left a mark on viewers over the course of the past year. Kevin Spacey from House of Cards is certainly a contender since he hasn’t won even once since HOC began. Mr. Robot actor Rami Malek could take it given the show’s spectacular rise and ever-growing popularity. Bob Odenkirk from Better Call Saul and Matthew Rhys from The Americans will also pick up a **mination each though a victory for either seems highly unlikely.  Women in television will also shine in the category of Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited ****** or Movie which will include actress Sarah Paulson, who starred as Marcia Clark in The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story and Kerry Washington as Anita Hill in Confirmation. The award for Best Drama ******, went to fan favourite show, Game of Thrones last year which means this could be the year of a wild card. Mr. Robot might fill in that gap. **stalgia-inducing shows such as Homeland, House of Cards and Downton Abbey could also make one final appearance in the drama category as a final hurrah. The Americans also has a 50-50 chance to be the dark horse this year but if we’re going by buzz alone, it will be the year of Mr. Robot. أكثر...
