With over 5,000 security personnel ensuring protection of the main procession, thousands of mourners observed Yaum-e-Ali – martyrdom of Hazrat Ali (RA) – in the city on Monday. Claimed to be equipped with appropriate tech**logy, the police besides making use of a robot had also manually sealed various entry points of MA Jinnah Road, Golimar, Lasbela and Garden areas, while air surveillance was also carried out. The mourners gathered at Nishter Park after Zuhr prayers and walked to the Hussainian Iranian Imambargah, in Kharadar, where the procession culminated before Iftar. Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) officials were kept on high alert while sniffer dogs were also used to clear the route of the procession. A ban on motorcycle pillion riding had been enforced by the authorities two days prior to the procession, while a traffic plan had also been an**unced. A reasonable number of policewomen were also deployed at Nishter Park and other places for checking women participants. Rooftops of high-rises around the park and along the route had been covered by deploying armed police personnel. Special intelligence teams had also been positioned by concerned towns for strict surveillance of the Majlis and the procession. All DIGPs, SSPs, SPs, SDPOs, SHOs had in earlier meetings directed to provide foolproof security cover to the city for the day. All traffic coming from the city side was diverted towards Soldier Bazaar (Bahadur Yar Jang Road), Coast Guard headquarters, Anklesaria Hospital to Jubilee Cloth Market and then to the Garden area. Traffic coming from Nazimabad was diverted from Lasbela towards Nishter Road, and from there towards Garden Zoo, while that coming from Liaquatabad was diverted to Martin Road and towards the central jail.
