Says accountability should be started from PM, his family; Bilawal backs moving ECP, NAB against Sharif family
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has decided to withdraw from the Parliamentary Committee on the formulation of Terms of Reference (ToRs) for probing the PanamaLeaks, saying that the participation in the Parliamentary Committee meeting is meaningless, and accountability must be started from Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and his family. “Though we have decided to leave the Parliamentary Committee yet the final decision would be taken with the consultation of all the opposition parties,” said the Opposition Leader in the Senate Aitzaz Ahsan while talking to newsmen along with the PPP Vice President Senator Sherry Rehman, Secretary General PPP Latif Khosa and PPP Information Secretary Qamar Zaman Kaira after the meeting of the PPP’s legal committee on the PanamaLeaks. Before holding the press talk with the media, the PPP legal team on the PanamaLeaks briefed and updated the PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on proceedings of the Parliamentary Committee on the formulation of TORs on the PanamaLeaks while seeking instructions for future line of action. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari also approved the party’s decision to file a disqualification reference against the Sharif family.Aitzaz Ahsan said that the opposition had tried to form an impartial committee but the government had been exposed by its **n-seriousness towards the issue. Furthermore, the PPP also decided to file a reference in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) against the Sharif family and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s incompetence. A meeting of the senior party leadership was held in the Zardari House, Islamabad, on Thursday under the chairmanship of Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and discussed a host of current political issues in the country and organisational matters of the party. Senator Aitzaz Ahsan briefed the meeting with details in which the opposition parties in the bipartisan Parliamentary Committee had gone to formulate agreed Terms of Reference (ToRs) for probing the PanamaLeaks scandal. The meeting expressed grave concern over the foot dragging resorted to by the ruling coalition in carrying forward the PanamaLeaks investigations and warned the government that it could result in serious political repercussions. Spokesperson Senator Farhatullah Babar said that the meeting decided to consult all the parties on the situation arising out of the government bid to discourage the Parliamentary Committee from ensuring credible, effective and across the board accountability of all those involved in the scandal. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari warned that the ruling party had been thoroughly exposed and in its bid to protect an individual from accountability it was resorting to dangerous brinkmanship which could result in serious repercussions. Stressing the need for an impartial and effective accountability mechanism in the country the meeting vowed to vigorously pursue the PanamaLeaks scandal. The meeting also stressed the need for unity in the opposition ranks in formulating a robust and credible response to the ruling coalition side-tracking the issue. Farhatullah Babar said that the meeting also decided to file petition against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif before the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for his disqualification from holding public ******. Simultaneously a**ther case will also be filed in the NAB against the prime minister, he said. He said that Sardar Latif Khosa briefed the meeting on the dossiers for filing petition before the ECP as well as case in the NAB. It was decided that both the petition before the ECP and NAB reference will be filed by Latif Khosa on behalf the party at the earliest. The meeting also reviewed the re-organisation matters of the party in all the provinces and directed the respective provincial coordination committees to step up the reorganisation process in accordance with the guidelines already issued in this regard. Spokesperson said that the meeting condemned the kidnapping of the son of Chief Justice Sindh High Court and the targeted assassination of Qawwal Amjad Sabri in Karachi in quick succession. Expressing grave concern over these incidents the meeting called for investigating whether the spurt in the incidents of targeting high profile and high value individuals was part of some larger design of the militants and their backers. The meeting also offered Fateha for the soul of Qawwal Amjad Sabri and expressed profound sympathies with the bereaved family members. The meeting was attended by former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani, Ms Faryal Talpur, Syed Khursheed Shah, Aitzaz Ahsan, Nayyar Bukhari, Syed Naveed Qamar, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Sherry Rehman, **or Alam Afridi, Aijaz Jakhrani, Nadeem Afzal Chan, Faisal Karim Kundi, Latif Khosa, Jamil Soomro and Farhatullah Babar. أكثر... ??????? ??????: PPP parts ways with MPs? body on PanamaLeaks || ??????: ahlam1399 || ??????: اسم منتداك
