Elders urge govt to probe misuse of*funds meant for Fata uplift
PESHAWAR: The Elders of Mahsud tribe in South Waziristan on Monday asked the government to an**unce a special financial package for rehabilitation of the militancy-affected tribal people.
They asked the government to constitute a commission to investigate the embezzlement of the funds meant for the relief of internally displaced persons (IDPs) from South Waziristan. Speaking at a news conference, a tribal elder, Abdul Karim Mahsud, said that the tribesmen were faced with a host of difficulties as they were living in makeshift camps under tough conditions. He said the government received millions of dollars in financial assistance in name of tribal people from the foreign do**rs, but it didn’t utilise it in appropriate manner to mitigate the sufferings of militancy-hit people of the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata). Flanked by chief of Mahsud tribe, Shahzada, Elders Malik **or Khan, Malik Kabul Khan, Malik Sarwar, Malik Javed Mehsud, and others, he accused the Fata Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) and Fata Development Authority (FDA) of misusing the funds. “Has anybody asked the relevant authorities about the funds they received from foreign do**rs? Where was the money spent?” he questioned. He alleged that government officials pocketed the funds and urged the government to constitute a commission to probe the embezzlement money.Abdul Karim Mahsud termed insufficient Rs400,000 an**unced by the government for each displaced family from South Waziristan. He said that 40,000 people from Mehsud tribe were registered with relevant authorities. He asked that the government should ensure 100 per cent registration of the displaced families from Mehsud tribe.
