Doka touts concrete sensor to Dubai Municipality Doka has debuted ‘Concremote’ at a technical presentation for Dubai Municipality. The Austria-headquartered concrete firm contends that the ‘green concrete’ sensor is ideally placed to support the Emirate’s environmentally-minded construction legislation. Concremote, according to Doka, measures the compressive strength and durability parameters of green concrete, leading to improvements in quality and safety, and reductions in cost and time. The presentation, which took place at Dubai Central Laboratory, was delivered by Wilko van der Meer, the company’s managing director for Concremote. Speaking to a selection of municipal guests and construction experts, van der Meer outlined the functionality and benefits of the product, and how it can be implemented in practical terms. “Concremote sensors utilise new, in**vative tech**logy, and are placed directly in a concrete structure after pouring to measure **n-stop compressive strength evolution,” explained Doka in a press release. “All sensors have a real-time connection to the internet, and **tify stakeholders such as job-site staff and consultants via text or e-mail when concrete is hardened e**ugh to proceed with subsequent construction works.” The manufacturer claims that the device offers time savings of 47%, cost savings of 32%, quality improvement of 55%, and a total business value increase of 44%, compared to conventional measurement methods. Doka also emphasised the environmental benefits of green concrete alternatives, pointing out that historically, concrete has been ack**wledged to be the second-largest producer of carbon dioxide emissions – after the energy sector – with one tonne of Portland cement yielding 1.1 tonnes of CO2 and 164kg of dust. Recent estimates have indicated that a mandatory switch to green concrete would add an extra 40 years of life to buildings that use it, and offer cost savings of approximately $52.27bn (AED192bn) in Dubai's construction sector.
