US Secretary of state John Kerry met with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in Rome on Sunday as the US tries to diffuse tensions over recognition of a Palestinian state. Various UN resolutions are being proposed as countries such as Germany France and Jordon hope to use the Security Council to end the Palestinian Israeli conflict. Jordan has already circulated a draft Palestinian resolution to the 15-member UN council calling for Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory to end by **vember 2016. However other European countries claim the draft is unbalanced and are working on their own proposal. Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu is also due in Rome. Kerry hopes upcoming talks with the Israeli leader and later with European foreign ministers will avert the possibility of a a United Nations Security Council clash. Tensions in the region have surged in recent weeks after the death of a Palestinian Cabinet minister who collapsed after scuffles Israeli troops along with a dispute over access to a holy site in Jerusalem. Any suggestion for a UN resolution proposing a time limit for an Israeli withdrawal from land Palestinians want for a state is a **n-starter for Netanyahu.
