Disney?s Aladdin reboot is getting a sequel

Although Disney’s Aladdin reboot got mixed reviews, it was a massive hit at the box office â?? making over $1 billion worldwide â?? and now a sequel is on the way.

Stars Will Smith, Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott are all wanted back for the follow-up, but it’s not known yet whether Guy Ritchie is returning as director (via Variety).

However, the movie does have two new Oscar-nominated writers on board: John Gatins, who was nominated for Denzel Washington drama Flight, and Andrea Berloff (Straight Outta Compton).

Last year’s film â?? written by Ritchie and John August â?? was based on the 1992 animated classic, but this one won’t have anything to do with the animation’s straight-to-video sequels and will be an entirely new idea. However, there’s no word just yet about its plot.

Aladdin is also getting a spin-off on streaming service Disney+, focusing on Billy Magnussen’s dim-witted Prince Anders from the live-action reboot.

Originally created for the box-office hit, Anders was a royal from the fictional kingdom Skanland and a potential suitor for Princess Jasmine.

Disney is yet to announce when this spin-off will be hitting screens.
