Controversial movie The Hunt is finally being released – and there?s an incredible

Last year, Universal Pictures cancelled the release of Controversial ‘social satire’ movie The Hunt, which sees a lot of rich white people hunting ‘deplorables’ for sport.

It sounded, and looked, like a more barmy and action-heavy version of The Purge, which is unsurprising since both moves come from Blumhouse.

But the movie has been uncancelled, and its new release date has been unveiled in a trailer that not only contains the violence and close-to-the-knuckle one-liners we were expecting, but also takes potshots at the controversy surrounding the film and its original cancellation.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, writer Damon Lindelof (who was responsible for the very good Watchmen series) said: “It’s probably the most judged movie that’s ever existed that everyone who judged it hadn’t seen.

“We weren’t going to win the conversation around that and so it was our decision, in holding hands with Universal, to take the movie off the schedule.

“No-one who has seen the movie has described the movie as provocative… The audience is smart enough to know that what they’re seeing is a satire and it’s preposterous.

“We think that people who see it are going to enjoy it and this may be a way to shine a light on a very serious problem in the country, which is that we’re divided. And we think the movie may actually, ironically, bring people together.”

He’s got a point, to be fair. Nothing brought people together last year like dunking on Cats did.

The Hunt is due for release on Friday, March 13.<em><em/></em>
