RAWALPINDI: Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal said on Friday that in order for the state of Medina to be built, personal interests would have to take a backseat to national ones.Addressing a seminar at Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) titled “Role of Youth in Eradication of Corruption in Pakistan”, he said if holding people accountable was a crime then the NAB would keep on committing it continuously.He said the bureau had recovered plundered money of Rs 300 billion since its establishment. “The NAB has decided that it will not see the face. It will see the case on its merits,” he said. “The country owes more than $100 million hence those who looted it will be held accountable.”He said there were numerous laws present in Pakistan to keep corruption and money laundering in check. However, implementation on these laws was needed. “If we are to build the state of Medina, we must keep the national interest above personal interests,” he added.Justice Iqbal said corruption existed throughout the world in different forms but in Pakistan it had become a cancer which was expanding. “Corruption has socially and economically put us at the verge of disparity and now the NAB has to bring it down,” the NAB chief said while encouraging the students to build their trust in the bureau as it was working for securing their future.“The only way to remove corruption from its roots is to hold ourselves accountable at individual level, he added. He emphasised that corruption was a menace and it must be eradicated from society.He advised the students to keep their personal interests in accordance with national interests adding the country was currently having financial troubles but the future was bright for the new generation. –News Desk/APP
