افتراضي Abbasi, Nawaz mull over options for Senate chairman

LAHORE: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi discussed regional and local political matters in a meeting with PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif at his Jati Umra on Tuesday.
The aftermath of the Senate elections also came under discussion wherein the voting pattern of the party members was talked about. They discussed the strategy and options regarding the election of the chairman and deputy chairman of the Senate, however, no formal announcement regarding the candidates to be fielded for these positions was made.
Nawaz is scheduled to chair a party meeting today (Wednesday) to hold discussion on the election of Senate chairman. According to reports, a number of the party?s senators came under consideration for the two positions, as Nawaz instructed Abbasi to remain in close contact with the party members.
Abbasi shared the details of his recent visit to Nepal and his meeting with Nepalese President Bidya Devi Bhandari and former prime minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal. Nawaz, who is considered the source of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in Pakistan, was informed by the prime minister regarding the exchange of views on progress on CPEC and Nepal?s participation in the One Belt, One Road (OBOR) initiative.
The agenda for the upcoming federal cabinet meeting to be held on Wednesday (today) was also discussed by the two leaders. Earlier, the prime minister returned from Nepal where he agreed with the Nepalese leadership to enhance cooperation in all areas of mutual importance including political, economic, defence and cultural fields.Both leaders expressed satisfaction over the cooperation between the two countries on international fora and expressed the desire to reinvigorate South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) as an important regional organisation.
