"We have shared with Pakistan our South Asia strategy in detail and have made our expectations clear, emphasised that they must take decisive action against all militant and terrorist groups based there," Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee Wednesday. He added that the US might consider lifting the suspension of funds after that, but in case of failure the administration intended to hold Pakistan accountable. "We continue to value our relationship with Pakistan and recognise the benefit of cooperation," he told the panelists while acknowledging Pakistan's important role and sacrifices it had made. The Trump administration, last month, suspended almost a billion dollar in security assistance to Pakistan, pressurising the country to take action against the Taliban and Haqqani Network. Since then Pakistan has been arguing that it has already expelled such terrorists and there were no sanctuaries in its territory. John Sullivan had recently visited Kabul where he had meetings with the US army officials, and Afghan leadership including President Ghani, and Dr Abdullah. He discussed the US policy, which combines a whole-of-government approach - diplomatic, political, economic, military pressure on the Taliban to bring them ultimately to the negotiating table. Briefing the committee panel about US strategy on Afghanistan, Deputy Secretary John Sullivan said that the administration had not seen any evidence that Pakistan had met the demands. It also hopes that Islamabad will help convince the Taliban to enter into a peace process. ?We also encourage restraint in Pakistan?s military, nuclear and missile programs, and seek continued, closer alignment of Pakistan?s nonproliferation policies with our own,? Sullivan said. Answering a question he said that Pakistan had not done enough to expel elements of the Taliban that had been operating in sanctuaries in Pakistan. ?The United States is committed to doing our part to reduce tensions in the region in ways that address Pakistan?s legitimate concerns,? he said adding, ?To be clear, we reproach the use of terrorist proxies by any country against another country anywhere in the world, the use of terrorism has no place in a rule-based international system.?Besides John Sullivan, Assistant Defence Secretary Randall Schriver also testified at the hearing. The assistant defence secretary maintained that the US remains engaged with Pakistan to ensure there are no terrorist safe havens. أكثر... ??????? ??????: US to unfreeze funds if Pakistan acts against terrorists || ??????: ahlam1399 || ??????: اسم منتداك
