In an armed robbery, early this month, two dacoits followed my driver from a bank, snatched money from him on gunpoint as he stopped the car on the ramp of my house, and escaped. They were riding a motorbike with fake registration number. None of the safe city cameras or the CCTVs installed privately by others helped identified the dacoits. Yet the criminals were traced in just three days? time, and later on arrested too. The looted money was also recovered. One of the dacoits was wearing a helmet while the other had his face covered. We also could not help Police about the dacoits? appearance and what they were wearing. Thus from our side, it was a blind case of robbery. Unfortunately, the bank?s CCTV cameras were also found useless for showing dark footage. Cameras of the surrounding buildings and the private houses, along the road between the bank and the crime site, were also scanned by the police. But no identifiable image of the dacoits was found. However, still SP Investigation Islamabad Capt (R) Zeeshan Haider and his team of detectives from Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) including DSP Muhammad Ashraf, Inspector Haider Ali, ASI Shakil Ahmad Butt, head constable Umar Daraz and constables Shafiq and Atiq Hussain solved the case within a few days. Two suspects were arrested while Police are looking for some of their accomplices. According to Police probe, this is a gang of dacoits having past criminal record. Before their recent series of crimes, they were involved in 29 cases of theft, robberies etc. and were released on bail only a couple months back after serving three years of jail. I am happy that my case has been solved. The ability and talent of the Police also thoroughly impressed me. But there is an upsetting aspect for me in this experience i.e. Police officials admit and people complain that Police do not treat every case like this one. Only high profile cases are keenly followed while ordinary complainants are made to run from pillar to post even to get an FIR registered. My own nephew told me that his wife was deprived of her mobile phone by a motorbike snatcher in the same sector where I live but the Police did not even register the case. Forget about investigation or the arrest of criminals, generally the registration of FIR in such cases becomes a huge challenge for any ordinary citizen. Generally people curse Police for such an indifferent attitude towards their cases of robberies, theft etc. but in actual the working of the department has been marred by extreme politicisation where the Police are supposed to serve a few - the influential ones- and not the masses. For the greater interest of the masses and for checking the crime effectively, Police have to take every crime and each complainant seriously. It should not be the case of pick and choose. But this will become possible only if the Police department is run on merit, made independent from external influences and depoliticised for which government has to play the lead role. The Police department has been wronged for decades to serve the vested interests of a few; yet it is capable of solving complicated cases despite meager resources. The challenge is how to make it deliver to common man. أكثر... ??????? ??????: Police made to serve a few, ignore masses || ??????: ahlam1399 || ??????: اسم منتداك
