ISLAMABAD: Leader of the House in the Senate Raja Zafarul Haq told the media on Tuesday that Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa had told parliamentarians that the army will work within its ambit set by the Constitution.

He said briefing by the army chief to closed-door session of parliamentarians* is a good step. He said the COAS was asked all kinds of questions and he gave detailed answers. He said the briefing seems to have filled the gap between institutions.

Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed said the briefing was first of its kind. He said no issue was left unanswered. He said he is satisfied with the briefing during which people kept their calm. He said all apprehensions were removed and it is good for civil-military relations. He said today is a historic day for both the military and civil leadership.

Senator Farooq H Naik said that the army chief was composed in giving replies to all questions. He said ISPR DG also chipped in where necessary. Senator Asif Kirmani said the briefing helped understand affairs of the country. He said such steps need to be taken in future too.

Senator Mushahidullah Khan said all are satisfied with the briefing. He said it is message of supremacy of the parliament that has been sent across the world. Senator Pervez Rashid said both sides spoke out during the meeting which is a good sign. He said he is content that an institution of the state felt that it is answerable to public representatives. He said such acts will go a long way for the masses to build trust in democracy. He said the army chief has said that there is no room for presidential system in the country, which is a cause of weakening the state. Senator Nehal Hashmi said the army chief has made it clear that the army has nothing to do with those who give analyses in the evening on TV channels.
