In less than 24 hours, Aereo, the streaming television startup that has caused broadcasters fits, will fight for its life before the Supreme Court.
Aereo provides consumers with the opportunity to lease antennas for the purpose of accessing free-to-air broadcast television. The antennas are attached to a storage system that also allows subscribers to record shows and play them back later. Broadcasters took issue with Aereo and filed a lawsuit alleging breach of copyright law for the startup's retransmission of content without consent.
