?Probe to be embarrassing as govt paid blood money for Davis?

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani on Friday decided in the House not to order an investigation into the revelations made by CIA agent Raymond Davis in his book ‘The Contractor’ about the role of top Pakistani leadership and institutions in his release after he killed three people.
Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif said the chair had to decide on investigation, in-camera or open, and would it be for lessons to learn or for point-scoring. He said the probe will be embarrassing. “It will be a disgrace again, if it were to be made for point-scoring,” he said. He noted that the Government of Pakistan had paid the blood money on behalf of Davis.
He recalled how he had gunned down two youth in Lahore in broad daylight and then crushed another under his vehicle, whose widow died of shock but not before demanding justice for her spouse.
The minister said that accountability would be conducted on behalf of over 210 million people and if accountability did not start from parliament, then institutions would not enjoy writ or sanctity. The calling attention notice, moved by Senator Hamdullah, said that the revelations made by Davis in his book had raised several questions on the ability of Pakistani institutions.
The JUI-Fazl senator pointed out that those mentioned in the book had not clarified their position hitherto exactly what was their role in the entire affair. He noted that the US spy also claimed that the search for Osama bin Laden would not have been successful had he been not freed. Hamdullah asked was the murder of innocent Pakistanis for triggering anarchy or accidental.
Likewise, the bill to further amend the National School of Public Policy Ordinance, 2002: The National School of Public Policy Amendment Bill, 2017 was adopted by the House. Another bill titled The Public Interest Disclosures Bill, 2017 was referred to the committee for consideration and report. It has also been adopted by the National Assembly already.
