Indian troops martyr four, including HELD SRINAGAR: The Indian forces martyred four people, including a top militant commander of a banned group, and two civilians including a woman and injured many others on Saturday in indiscriminate firing on peaceful protesters and during gunbattle with militants in the Indian Held Kashmir.

In the first incident, people took to the streets after Indian troops launched a violent cordon and search operation in the Dialgam area of the district. The troops fired bullets, pellets and teargas shells on the demonstrators killing two civilians, Tariq Ahmed and Tahira Begum, and injuring many others. Eyewitness told mediamen that Tariq and Tahira were hit by bullets. Massive protests were going on in the area when reports last came in. Locals said that the forces’ personnel used civilians as human shield during the operation.

Meanwhile, Indian security forces shot dead a top militant commander who was accused of killing six police ******rs during a seven-hour gunbattle in the disputed Kashmir region on Saturday, police and army officials said.

Bashir Ahmad, alias Bashir Lashkari, was on India’s most-wanted list and had a one million rupee bounty on his head. Ahmad killed six police ******rs in an ambush in the southern Anantnag district last month, the officials said.

A**ther militant, who police named as Azad Malik, was also killed during Saturday’s joint army and police operation in Dailigam village, part of Anantnag.

Two civilians were also killed in the clash and 17 others, who had been trapped inside a house with the militants, were rescued, a police spokesman said.

Lieutenant Colonel Rajesh Kalia, an army spokesman based in Srinagar, said the two dead militants belonged to the banned militant group.

Meanwhile, the puppet authorities have snapped the mobile internet services in the district and imposed curfew-like-restrictions in Dialgam. The authorities have also an**unced closure of educational institutions in the district to prevent students from staging demonstrations against the killing of the woman.

They have also imposed restrictions in Srinagar to prevent protests against the Indian government’s plan of implementing Goods and Services Tax (GST) in the territory. The authorities have imposed restrictions in Khanyar, Rainawari, **whatta, Maharajgang, Safa Kadal areas and deployed heavy contingents of Indian troops and police personnel in full riot gear.

Complete shutdown is being observed in the territory on the call of the President of Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF) Muhammad Yasin Khan against the implementation of the GST. Shops and business establishments are closed while traffic is off the road.
