ISLAMABAD: Accusing the PML-N government of increasing the pressure on the judiciary, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah on Wednesday asked Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to apologise to the nation for giving a statement against the Supreme Court of Pakistan as the Opposition walked out of the House. Speaking on the floor of the National Assembly before the Opposition parties’ walkout, Khursheed Shah said Shahbaz Sharif in a statement had said pointing guns at a family by the Supreme Court is **t accountability. “He should contradict his statement and apologise for it to the nation,” the Opposition leader said, adding that the government was exerting pressure on the judiciary and trying to make the joint investigation team (JIT) on the Panama case controversial. He said Shahbaz should tell when the judiciary pointed the gun. The Opposition leader said that judicial murder of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was committed but his party never accused the judiciary of pointing guns at them. “Benazir Bhutto was also assassinated but we never said that it was a conspiracy against Pakistan,” he said. The speech of the Opposition leader invited strong reaction from the treasury benches as at least four members of the federal cabinet, including Khawaja Saad Rafique, Mian Balighur Rehman, Abid Sher Ali and Chaudhry Barjees Tahir, came up with response saying the Opposition was escaping from discussing the problems of masses in the House. Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali went to the extent of calling Asif Ali Zardari as the godfather of corruption in Pakistan. Meanwhile, the Opposition leader observed that an important personality like Shahbaz Sharif had given a statement against the Supreme Court. “How the country will function when the JIT constituted by the Supreme Court is made controversial and the Election Commission is targeted,” he said. He maintained that the people of Pakistan would safeguard institutions like the judiciary and ** one would be allowed to run the country by use of force. He questioned as to how a personality like Shahbaz Sharif could use such language against the Supreme Court, adding that all institutions are vital for the country. “The existence of national institutions is important for Pakistan and democracy,” he said. The Opposition leader recalled that the same people used say that Benazir Bhutto and other PPP leaders should be convicted. “The period of injustice and barbarism will return if such an attitude continues and everybody will make decisions by use of force and gun,” he said. He pointed out that the issue of Nehal Hashmi was a game which the government would continue to play. He demanded the government to clarify its position on issue of relations with Qatar, questioning that whether Pakistan would also have to follow the decision of six Gulf countries of severing relations with Qatar. He said Pakistan’s former army chief is leading the military alliance of counties which is cutting relations with Qatar. He questioned whether Pakistan would also have to follow decisions of cutting relations with Muslim countries. Arguing that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto struggled for unity among the Muslim counties, he maintained that Pakistan should also play the same role. The Opposition members walked out of the House while raising slogans of ‘Go Nawaz Go’. Some government members, Mian Abdul Manan and others, while standing in their seats, responded to slogans. Responding to the speech of the Opposition leader, Abid Sher Ali said Nehal Hashmi tendered his resignation on the directives of the prime minister but the same was **t accepted under a conspiracy. “It was the Senate chairman, who hails from the party of the Opposition leader who did **t accept the resignation for seven days,” he said. On that, Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, who was chairing the proceedings, said the Senate chairman acted as per rules. Abid Sher Ali pointed out that meetings of the Sindh cabinet are convened in Dubai, questioning whether the provincial ministers bear expenses on their travel and stay. “The meetings in Dubai are held on the money of Sindh people,” he said, adding that the people wanted to k**w as to how the national wealth reached the Swiss banks. He also called governments of Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa thieves. On that, Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq asked him **t point fingers at him during his speech. The Speaker immediately expunged the word ‘thief’. On that, Abid Sher Ali while addressing the speaker said he did **t expunge similar words used by the Opposition members. “You also give more time to the Opposition members so that they continue abusing us,” he said. Minister for Kashmir Affairs Barjees Tahir said like other parties, the PML-N also rendered supreme services for the supremacy of the judiciary and the Constitution in the country. He said the Opposition leader was still sticking to his guns despite delivering daily speeches in the House and then staging walkouts. He said the Opposition members should highlight the problems of their constituencies in the House but they have failed to perform their due role in the budget discussion. He called upon the Opposition **t to ruin the peaceful atmosphere. Minister of State for Interior Balighur Rehman said it was unfortunate that the Opposition leader was depriving other Opposition members of their right to speak in the House. He said the Opposition leader was stressing for live telecast of his speech although there was ** such precedent. Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique said that PML-N believes in the supremacy of the judiciary and has all respect for the judges. He said the PML-N leadership and its members have always presented themselves for accountability and will continue the same practice in future with the same spirit. The railways minister while defending the Punjab chief minister said he never used any derogatory remarks for the judiciary. Only two members participated in the budget debate. Iftikharuddin congratulated the government on presenting the federal budget for the fifth consecutive time. He said the government's steps to strengthen eco**my are appreciable. Awais Ahmad Leghari appreciated the government's steps for uplift of the agriculture sector in the country. أكثر... ??????? ??????: Opposition walks out of NA over Shahbaz Sharif?s remarks || ??????: ahlam1399 || ??????: اسم منتداك
