Beijing dismisses Pentagon reportWASHINGTON/BEIJING: The US Defense Department has said China can likely establish military bases in Pakistan, as its capabilities are growing across the world. Beijing dismissed as "irresponsible" an annual US Defense Department report that predicted China would expand its global military presence. In a hundred pages long annual report, the Pentagon focused on China's outreach and claimed, "China most likely will seek to establish additional military bases in countries with which it has a longstanding friendly relationship and similar strategic interests, such as Pakistan, and in which there is a precedent for hosting foreign militaries." The report **ticed that Chinese military's growing influence and capacity was funded by defence spending that exceeds 180 billion dollars. The amount is higher than China's official defence budget of 140 billion dollars. It also said that from 2011 to 2015, China was the world's fourth largest arms supplier, with more than 20 billion dollars in sales. "Of this, 9 billion dollars was to Asia-Pacific countries, primarily Pakistan." It further pointed out China's defence equipment agreements with other countries including Pakistan. China signed an agreement with Pakistan for the sale of eight submarines. The first four will be built in China, with the remaining four in Pakistan. Other major Asia-Pacific customers of Chinese military equipment include Bangladesh and Burma. "In May 2016, a nuclear-powered attack submarine conducted a port call in Karachi, Pakistan, during a visit by the PLAN Commander, marking China's first port call in South Asia by a nuclear submarine," it said. The report suggested that China's overseas military basing may be constrained by the willingness of countries to support a PLA presence in one of their ports. PLA stands for People's Liberation Army - the armed forces of the Communist Party of China and the People's Republic of China. AFP/Reuters add: Meanwhile, Beijing on Wednesday dismissed as "irresponsible" an annual US Defence Department report that predicted China would expand its global military presence, building overseas bases in countries like Pakistan. Foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said during a regular briefing Wednesday that China "is firmly opposed" to aspects of the publication. "We have **ted the report released by the US which made irresponsible remarks about China´s national defence development in disregard of the facts," Hua said, declining to comment on "speculation" and **ting that the "friendly cooperation (between China and Pakistan) does **t target any third party.” As part of China´s expansive Belt and Road regional infrastructure project, China and Pakistan are building an eco**mic corridor aimed at linking **rthwest China to the Arabian Sea. India has voiced displeasure at the planned route, which cuts through Gilgit and Baltistan in Pakistan-Azad Kashmir -- disputed territory which India claims is illegally occupied. China started building its first overseas military base in February 2016 in the small nation of Djibouti, where it will be stationed just a few miles from a US camp. The outpost will support the country´s UN peacekeepers in Africa, allow it to evacuate its nationals in a crisis, and support anti-piracy activities off Somalia, according to China. The Pentagon report **ted that the strategically-sited camp, "along with regular naval vessel visits to foreign ports, both reflects and amplifies China´s growing influence, extending the reach of its armed forces". The Pentagon report flagged Chinese military advances, including in space and at sea. It cited China´s 2016 launch of the first experimental quantum communications satellite, ack**wledging that it represented a "**table advance in cryptography research. "As in past years, the Pentagon renewed its concerns about cyber spying, saying US government-owned computers were again targeted by China-based intrusions through 2016. "These and past intrusions focused on accessing networks and extracting information," the report said. "China uses its cyber capabilities to support intelligence collection against US diplomatic, eco**mic, and defence industrial base sectors. أكثر... ??????? ??????: China likely to build military bases in Pakistan: US || ??????: ahlam1399 || ??????: اسم منتداك
