ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar has taken suo moto **tice on continuous violations of code of conduct by TV channels, airing of obscene and vulgar content and stay orders granted by the courts against any actions taken by Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) regarding such violations.
The CJP also passed directions to Pemra chairman to conduct probe and keep abreast the apex court to the developments. The **tice is taken and directions are passed on the basis an Urdu column published in Daily Jang on Thursday. It was authored by senior journalist Ansar Abbasi.
The suo moto is taken under letter ** HRC ** 8005/2017 dated April 07, 2017. Ansar in his column had highlighted the ‘extremely obscene’ filming and airing of a song on an entertainment channel. Ansar has also highlighted whenever Pemra takes action against such violations or any other channels immediately obtain stay orders from courts making the regulatory authority completely dysfunctional.
