W. L. GORE & Associates, better k**wn simply as Gore, received FDA approval and is making available in the U.S. its for its*GORE VIATORR TIPS Endoprosthesis with Controlled Expansion. It’s intended for Transjugular Intrahepatic Portosystemic Shunt (TIPS) procedures that link the*portal vein to the hepatic vein to reduce the portal hypertension in patients with end-stage liver disease.
The diameter of the device can be controlled by the physician during implantation, from 8 mm to 10 mm, allowing for easier placement in different patients and anatomies. The exterior cover is made of ePTFE (Expanded Polytetrafluoroethylene), Gore’s proprietary material that helps block the passage of*bile and mucin.
It can be implanted into new patients, as well as be used for revision surgery in those who underwent TIPS in the past, and is being released along with the new GORE TIPS Set. This contains the*GORE TIPS Needle and GORE TIPS Sheath.
