Voters shouldn?t care about ?immigration?
Jeremy Corbyn spent months telling Labour members why he should remain their leader. Today he has to speak to a different audience: the electorate. Corbyn is meant to use his conference speech to set out to Voters why he should be their next Prime Minister. Instead he seems to have decided to use it to sneer at them. The Labour leader tried – however feebly – to stop Britain leaving the European Union, but they didn’t listen to him. Many were concerned about the level of immigration into the country, and voted Leave for greater control, while others wanted it cut outright. The overarching message from them to Westminster was simple: we’re tired of being patronised and want our concerns taken seriously. Corbyn has been an MP for over 30 years, so will k**w that politicians tend to promise to “learn lessons” when a vote doesn’t go their way. But he has decided in the wake of the referendum that it is the Voters who are wrong, rather than the metropolitan liberal politicians they defied. So any voter who tunes in to watch Corbyn’s key**te address will find themselves in for a lecture on why they’re wrong to think the way they do. The Labour leader is set to piously refuse to “fan the flames of fear”, and will declare himself to be “relaxed” about the prospect of higher immigration. Many Voters (61 per cent) feel it is “essential” to cut the number of migrants coming to Britain, according to GQR research, with only 12 per cent disagreeing. Left-wingers tend to feel that way too, with 41 per cent wanting immigration curbed.
