?America has never been great for people of colour?
The NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick said that Donald Trump’s suggestion to “find a country that works better for him” is “very ig**rant”. “It’s a very ig**rant statement that, if you don’t agree with what’s going on, hearing that if you want justice and liberty and freedom for all, then you should leave the country,” Kaepernick said on Tuesday. “He always says make America great again. Well, America has never been great for people of colour. And that’s something that needs to be addressed. Let’s make America great for the first time,” he said in a video shared by the Bay Area News Group. Kaepernick, 28, a reserve quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, started a polarising movement when he chose to stay seated, and then later opted to kneel, for the national anthem at the start of the football season. At the beginning of his protest he blasted both presidential candidates for playing a part in the problems that he says America is currently facing. “I think the two presidential candidates that we currently have also represented the issues that we have in this country right **w,” Kaepernick said. “You have Hillary (Clinton), who has called black teens or black kids super predators. You have Donald Trump, who is openly racist.” The Republican **minee responded by saying that the player’s decision to kneel during The Star-Spangled Banner was a “terrible thing.” “I think it’s a terrible thing, and you k**w, maybe he should find a country that works better for him,” the Republican candidate told KIRO radio in Seattle. “Let him try. It won’t happen.” The player on Tuesday reiterated that he is **t impressed by either presidential candidate after watching “a little” of their first debate. “It was embarrassing to watch that these are our two candidates,” he told reporters on Tuesday. “Both are proven liars, and it almost seems like they’re trying to debate who’s less racist.” “And at this point,” he said, “you have to pick the lesser of two evils. But in the end, it’s still evil.”The quarterback’s protest has inspired dozens of other NFL and college players to follow suit and it has started crossing over into football, tennis and the NBA. “Some of the things that I’ve been addressing over this past summer, I think we’re still in the same state. I think it’s actually getting worse and it will continue to get worse,” Knicks All-Star Carmelo Anthony said on Monday. “We still have to kind of keep the conversations going.” Anthony, LeBron James and NBA MVP Stephen Curry said that they would continue to stand - as NBA rules stipulate - and hoped players could find meaningful ways to work with their teammates instead of individually. “Am I going to kneel down and put my fist up? **, I’m **t. That’s ** disrespect to Colin or anybody else that’s doing it. But they’ve gotten the point across,” said Draymond Green, Curry’s Golden State teammate. “I don’t think I need to come out and do a national anthem protest, because it’s already started. There’s already a conversation.
