HELD SRINAGAR/ISLAMABAD: The Indian Army on Tuesday claimed blocking an attempt by suspected Pakistani militants to cross into the Indian held Kashmir (IHK), a spokesman said, days after a deadly raid on a military base in the territory. “A group of 10-12 terrorists attempted to infiltrate the Uri sector. They were intercepted and the infiltration bid was foiled,” said Indian Army spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia, referring to the same area where the Sunday’s attack took place. Rajesh Kalia said there had been a “ceasefire violation” near Uri, but gave ** further details.A**ther Indian Army spokesman said they were battling an unk**wn number of militants in the **wgam sector, south of Uri, who were trying to sneak into the Indian side on the heavily-militarised border. “This second infiltration bid (in **wgam) by an unk**wn number of terrorists has also been foiled and the operation is on. Unfortunately, we have lost one soldier there,” Col Manish Kumar said, adding there was ** information about any other casualties. In Muzaffarabad in Azad Kashmir, a Pakistani colonel said there was ** firing along the border. According to the Kashmir Media Service (KMS), this killing raised the death toll in the ongoing Kashmir violence to 105. The 13-year-old girl Khushboo Jan, a student of class VII, received pellets after Indian police and troops resorted to excessive force on protesters near the Chatwatanwhere doctors declared her brought dead. Witnesses said that Government High School Chatwatan went up in flames when a teargas shell fired by the Indian troops landed inside it. They said the building suffered an extensive damage. A residential house, a cowshed and apple carton also caught fire after shells landed inside them. Meanwhile, over a hundred people were injured, many of them critically, due to the firing of pellets and teargas shells by Indian troops and police in Vihil, Srinagar, Ganderbal, Sopore, Kulgam and other areas of IHK. Indian troops vandalised the tents and took away 13 motorbikes and later set them ablaze at Tarzoo in Sopore to prevent a pro-freedom rally. The locals said that the police also arrested Hurriyet leader Ghulam Nabi Zaki in the area. Hurriyet leader Abdus Samad Inqalabi told media persons that during a night raid at his Sumbal residence, a police party arrested his three brothers and nephew and shifted them to some unk**wn destination. Indian forces also damaged four houses in Kaimoh area of Kulgam. The forces personnel broke windowpanes of dozens of residential houses besides hurling abuses at the inmates at New Theed in Srinagar. The police also arrested several youth after beating them to pulp in the area. On the other hand, Indian troops in their fresh act of state terrorism martyred one more Kashmiri youth in Handwara area of Kupwara district. Meanwhile, authorities in IHK booked at least 18 persons in Kishtwar area of Jammu for staging demonstrations on the occasion of Eidul Azha against civilian killings by Indian forces. These people including two government teachers and Muslim clerics from Kishtwar have been booked under sedition and other fake charges, KMS reported. A local wire agency quoting official sources said a formal FIR stands registered against 18 persons in Kishtwar police station. Meanwhile, curfew and restrictions in IHK continued to remain in force for the 74th consecutive day on Tuesday to prevent anti India protest rallies. The restrictions were imposed to curb marches towards Baramulla, Pulwama and Srinagar districts as part of the weekly protest programme given by the joint Hurriyet leadership. However, people flouted the restrictions and held protests throughout the valley. The people came out on roads and pelted stones on the Indian troops. Many people were injured when Indian armed forces fired pellets and teargas shells on protesters in almost all districts of the Kashmir Valley. The forces attacked the participants of one such rally at Vehil in Shopian district in which scores of people were injured, many of them critically. Besides, the men in uniform destroyed fruits worth millions of rupees in the district. The forces personnel barged into houses in Dadsar, **orpur and Arigam areas of Tral, beat up inmates and ransacked houses. The troops in Kremshore area of Badgam district also vandalised houses and damaged parked vehicles. Meanwhile, the Hurriyet forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement de**unced the continued restrictions and Indian brutalities against Kashmiri people for the past around two and half months in the territory. The Indian security forces have reportedly started a *****down in Uri after militant attack. The Indian defence minister has also ordered investigation into security lapses to fix responsibility of the attack. The Indian National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday took over the investigation into the attack on the army camp in Uri. The NIA team headed by an inspector general is camping at Uri town to collect evidence from the site of the attack. The team, which took over the case from the police that had registered an FIR into the attack on Sunday, has also taken into its possession various items of investigation recovered from the possession of the four suicide attackers who were killed in a gunfight after they entered the administrative base of an infantry battalion in Uri town. The items taken into possession by the NIA team include two Global Positioning Systems (GPS), one of which was charred in the attack while the other is intact. "DNA samples of the slain terrorists are also being collected," a source said. Following the warning of Pakistan Army over any attack on the country, the Indian military commanders advised prime minister Narendra Modi against military action against Pakistan. The advice came during a high-level meeting chaired by Narendra Modi. The meeting was attended by home minister Rajnath Singh, defence minister Ma**har Parikar, national security adviser Ajit Doval, Indian army chief General Dilbir Singh and other high-ranking civil and military officials. During the meeting, the Indian prime minister and defence minister asked for options regarding aggression against Pakistan. General Dilbir Singh said the Pakistan Army has raised its defensive posture along the LoC. He said that he held meetings with field commanders and also visited the LoC himself, adding that any adventure against Pakistan would be dangerous for India itself.
