افتراضي Police sacrifices must **t be forgotten, says Nisar

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan onWednesday said the armed forces played a commendable role in making the National Action Plan (NAP) to counter terrorism successfully. However, the sacrifices of Police should **t be forgotten.

Winding up a lengthy debate in the Senate, the minister talked about the sacrifices rendered by the law-enforcement agencies and the significant decrease in terror attacks after the PML-N formed the government in 2013, following the general elections.

Without mentioning the name of any country, Nisar saidthe attackers on a Christian neighbourhood near Warsak were foreigners as their DNA did **t match anybody in Pakistan, adding that the attackers of Mardan and Quetta were yet to be identified. “We also traced the route they adopted to target a Christian locality,” he said.

“Can you recall the bomb blasts before 2013 as three or four bomb blasts were a routine matter. But today there has been an improvement, and there is ** blast at all even in months. It became possible due to collective efforts of the law enforcing agencies, political parties and all other stakeholders,” the minister said.

Nisar, who could **t make it to Quetta after the terrorist attack, assured the House that he would take up the matter in the presence of both the prime minister and the chief of the army staff (COAS) that VIP visits soon after such incidents should **t take place, as it creates more panic like it happened in the case of the Quetta attack.

Nisar insisted that the law and order situation was far better compared to the previous governments of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and General Pervez Musharraf. There were several such issues which if he disclosed would be a big embarrassment for the country.

“Let alone the issue of fake computerised national identity cards (CNICs), 29,000 official passports issued by the previous government were blocked as it was a serious security hazard,” he **ted.

“I’m **t going to spare those having fake CNICs. The interior minister and interior secretary issued official passports to human smugglers, and there are some more shocking revelations which I don’t want to make,” he said.

The minister reminded the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) senators **t to forget that their party was an ally of the government in the Centre and also a part of the government in Balochistan.

“It was me who introduced Achakzai to Nawaz Sharif, and if his brother is the gover**r of Balochistan, it is because he is the brother of Achakzai, so do ack**wledge if the law-enforcement agencies are doing something good. The gover**r can summon DG IB, ISI and even me if he has any concern instead of making statements,” the minister maintained.
