Provinces asked to follow National Climate Change policy

Islamabad: The Climate Change Ministry has conveyed to the Provinces that National Climate Change policy provides a basis, and form the building block so it should lead to the development of a National Adaptation Plan (NAP) and National Appropriate Mitigation Action (NAMAs) Framework to cope with adverse effects of the Climate change.

The spokesman of the ministry said the transport sector has shown the highest emission growth rate of all sectors and accounts for about a quarter of carbon dioxide emissions in Pakistan so it presents one of the most significant challenges to overall mitigation efforts and is crucial for tackling Climate change.

It is pertinent to mention here that National Climate Change policy was introduced in September 2012 and focuses on development sectors such as water resources, agriculture and livestock, forestry, human health, disaster preparedness, transport and energy.

He said the Climate Change ministry wants the Provinces to arrange regular vehicle maintenance technician courses besides setting up vehicle maintenance service centres in all urban areas.

National Climate Change policy underlines the need to develop and provide quality efficient public transport system in the country to encourage people to slowly move from the use of private cars to the public transport system, he said.
