ISLAMABAD: The Council of the Islamic Ideology (CII) on second day of three-day meeting on Wednesday termed some clauses of the Hague Convention on the International Child Abduction as against the Constitution of Pakistan, Islamic Shariat and the United Nations Charter.
The CII meeting, which is in progress with its chairman Maulana Muhammad Khan Shirani on Wednesday, held thorough consideration of the Hague Convention and the Child Protection Bill. The government had sent drafts of the Hague Convention and Child Protection CII to seek its opinion.
The Hague Convention was drafted and signed by different countries during the year 1980 while Pakistan is **t a signatory to the Convention.The CII meeting observed that the Muslim countries were involved in violation of rights of children. According to Clause 20 of the Hague Convention, the developed countries would **t return abducted or smuggled children of the country to their motherland where violation of children is committed.
The members of CII observed that such conventions having clauses which clash with Shariat and Constitution of Pakistan could **t be signed without thorough consideration. On Wednesday, the CII meeting discussed 21 out of 68 clauses of the Hague Convention.The meeting would hold further discussion on the Hague Convention, Child Protection Bill and the Women Protection Bill
