SUKKUR: Seven more children died at the government hospitals in Thar in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll to 412 in the last Seven months in the drought-hit district.
The newborns of Misri, Abdullah, Sawai, Manik and Khuda Bux lost their lives in Mithi Civil Hospital while those of Mukesh Kumar and Darya Khan died in Islamkot and Nagarparkar taluka hospitals.
Thousands of other children are undergoing treatment. Meanwhile, parents of the ailing children talking to the local journalists complained against the alleged callous and indifferent attitude of the doctors and paramedics and lack of facilities in Mithi, Islamkot and other towns.
Dr Ramesh Kumar Vankwani, a PML-N MNA from Thar and the chief of the Pakistan Hindu Council, while talking to this correspondent, strongly condemned the callous attitude of the functionaries concerned towards the deaths of the children.
Dr Vankwani said that due to the droughts, more than 136 people in Thar had committed suicide in the last two years. He said that most of the dispensaries in the remote areas of the desert region were lying closed.
