![]() ![]() 1977 Image: Camilo José Vergara/Library of Congress In 1968, the Chilean-born photographer Camilo José Vergara moved to New York City after earning a degree in sociology at **tre Dame He spent his spare time*while enrolled in a master’s program at Columbia*wandering impoverished uptown neighborhoods with his camera, capturing beautiful street photos of vibrant residents and crumbling spaces in then decaying neighborhoods of the city.
