Ethicon, part of J&J, obtained FDA 510(k) clearance to introduce its HARMONIC HD 1000i surgical Shears for use in both open and laparoscopic procedures. It dissects, transects, and seals tissue, so that a separate dissector is **t necessary. The instrument is an all-in-one unit, the hand piece and tool integrated together and sounds like it’s completely disposable so ** additional cleaning and management is needed. Previous similar Shears from Ethicon had a separate hand piece that could be used between different procedures.
