افتراضي AAG opposes bail applications of Axact directors

KARACHI: The Additional Attorney-General on Tuesday opposed in the Sindh High Court the bail applications of Axact directors in the fake degree scam contending that the accused could temper with the evidence if they were released on bail.

The court was hearing the bail applications of Axact directors Rizwan Ahmed, Imran Ahmed Khan, Atif Hussain, Adnan Saboor, Mohammad Adnan, Zeeshan Anwar, Fahad Ali Ansari and others pending before the SHC.

They have moved the SHC against rejection of their bail from a Sessions court in the Axact fake degree and money-laundering scam. The Additional Attorney-General, Salman Talibuddin, concluded his arguments on the bail applications and submitted that Axact had stored the data of fake online registration and universities at iCloud to prevent its access to the investigators, and if the applicants were released on bail they would temper with or destroy the data of fake online universities.

He requested the court to dismiss the bail applications of the applicants. The applicants’ counsel, Abid S Zuberi, Amir Mansoob Qureshi and Yaseen Azad, also concluded their arguments, submitting that the applicants were falsely implicated in the case on the basis of a news item published in a foreign newspaper, and the applicants were information tech**logy experts.

They submitted that the prosecution could **t establish its case so far before the trial court, and the applicants were entitled for bail. The SHC’s single bench, headed by Justice Iqbal Kalhoro, adjourned the hearing till April 27 for further arguments of the applicants’ counsels.

It is pertinent to mention that three private prosecutors, including Barrister Zahid Jamil, appointed by the FIA, had on previous hearing disassociated themselves from the bail applications’ proceedings of M/s Axact directors pending at the Sindh High Court.

Axact’s CEO Shoaib Ahmed Sheikh and other directors were booked by the FIA for their involvement in fake degree scam and money-laundering charges, and the proceedings were pending before the trial court.
