Department of
Justice asks a**ther judge to
force Apple to
unlock an
iPhone in New York



The
U.S. Department of
Justice filed a motion on Monday asking the court to overrule a ruling in an
iPhone unlocking case in New York.
Last week,
U.S. Magistrate
judge James Orenstein in the Eastern District of New York
denied the Department of Justice's request to compel
Apple to
unlock an
iPhone used in a drug case.

The government was seeking to compel
Apple to
unlock the phone using the All Writs Act, an argument the court rejected.
So on Monday, the
Department of
Justice resubmitted its request, this time asking that the case be looked at by a higher court judge.
