In a sign of increasing
tensions three Israeli soldiers have been wounded after they were rammed by a van just south of Bethlehem. It was the second such attack on the same day. Earlier a Palestinian ran
over pedestrians in Jerusalem. In that incident one Israeli was killed and at least thirteen others were injured. The driver then got out of the car and attacked people with a metal bar before being shot dead by police. Hamas militants have taken responsibility for the attack. Police identified that driver as a 38-year-old Palestinian who had recently been released from prison after serving time for security offences. The
attacks are though linked to a dispute surrounding the Al
Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem where Jewish hardliners have demanded to be able to pray. The
mosque is Islam?s third holiest site. There was also anger last week when Israeli authorities closed the
mosque to Muslim worshipers first time in 50 years.
