The municipality in the holy city has instructed maintenance teams to conduct ongoing maintenance to the 60 tunnels in the city to make sure they run perfectly, according to Khalid Al-Haij, undersecretary for construction and projects. The teams will inspect lights, alarm systems, electric systems, ventilation and all safety equipment to make sure Umrah performers and visitors of the Grand Mosque can use the tunnels safely. The 60 tunnels are in total 30 kilometers in length and have 48,000 lamps.
