LAHORE: An accountability
Court on Wednesday confirmed National Accountability Bureau Lahore’s
orders to
freeze properties owned by PML-N President
Shahbaz Sharif, his sons Hamza
Shahbaz and Salman
Shahbaz and other
family members in connection with an investigation involving income beyond means and money laundering.The
Court in its
orders observed that the proportion of “the
Shahbaz family wealth from 2003 to 2018 prima facie “is not proportionate to the known sources of the accused, which has not been explained by the accused.”The judgment further stated that “At this stage, even the provisions of the protection of Economic Reforms Act, 1992, would not be helpful to the accused party unless the sources of the said payments [are] disclosed by them.”The
orders also stated that NAB
orders against the
Shahbaz family are also supported by the statements given by approvers —- Muhammad Mushtaq, alias Cheeni, Yasir Mushtaq, Shahid Rafique and Aftab Mehmood.It is pertinent to mention that the
Shahbaz family can file objection to the said
Court orders within 14 days.Earlier, on Dec 3, The National Accountability Bureau had issued
orders to
freeze 23 properties owned by former chief minister and Pakistan Muslim League-N President
Shahbaz Sharif, his sons Hamza, Suleman and other
family members, all accused of amassing
assets beyond means and money-laundering.The properties under radar of NAB are also owned by wives of
Shahbaz Sharif — Nusrat
Shahbaz and Tehmina Durrani.According to orders, the NAB had directed the Lahore commissioner to
freeze 13 plots, owned by Hamza
Shahbaz in Johar Town Lahore and Judicial Colony. In this regard, secretary Judicial Employees Cooperative Housing Society, Lahore, had been directed to
freeze the transfer and sale of four plots (49. 50, 51, 52), owned by Hamza
Shahbaz in the Judicial Employees Cooperative Housing Society Lahore, each plot measuring more than one kanal. The Lahore Development Authority had been asked to
freeze nine plots of Hamza in K-Block, Johar Town.A letter had also been written by NAB to DG Galiyat Development Authority, Abbottabad, to
freeze a property measuring 9 kanals in Nishat Lodges Dunga Gali, owned by Nusrat Shahbaz, wife of
Shahbaz Sharif.The Model Town Lahore secretary had been asked by NAB to
freeze two more properties, owned by Nusrat
Shahbaz in Model Town Lahore —- 96-H and 86-H.The Defence Housing Authority (DHA), Lahore, had also been directed to
freeze two properties owned by Tehmina Durrani located in Phase-V. Furthermore, the bureau had also frozen a cottage and a villa in Pir Sohawa and two more plots in Chiniot.Before that, the NAB Lahore had ordered freezing of various industries owned by the
Shahbaz family, including Chiniot Power Limited, Ramzan Energy Limited, Al-Arabia Sugar Mills, Crystal Plastics Private Limited, Sharif Dairy Farms Private Limited and Sharif Poultry Farms Private Limi
