ISLAMABAD: The Parliamentary Committee on
appointment of
judges Friday decided to conduct interviews of nominated
judges of Islamabad High Court (IHC)
before appointing them. The committee met at the Parliament House with Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan in the chair.The committee decided to
interview the
judges whose names were under consideration for
appointment to the high court.The meeting officially gave permission to the committee to amend the rules and regulations pertaining to the
appointment of judges.Any judge who is asked to show up for an
interview but doesn't do so will have his nomination cancelled.The committee also introduced a new rule under which it could also summon anyone for interview. The procedure for the rejected cases has also be formulated. Through another rule, a committee member who will be absent in three meetings continuously will have his/her membership revoked.Under the new rule, the chairman of the committee will be elected through election and the elected chairman will chair the committee for six months. It was decided that the committee will meet again on December 4 and the nominee for the post of the judge of the Islamabad High Court nominated by the Judicial Commission will be summoned for
interview as per new rules
before the appointment. However, under the amended rules, the committee does not have the power to reject or amend the recommendations of the Judicial Commission.
