ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Interior
Talal Chaudhry on Monday refused to
submit affidavit in a
Contempt of
court proceeding against him being taken up by the Supreme Court. The Supreme
court (SC) on Monday directed
Talal Chaudhry to
submit evidence and list of witnesses in his defence in the
Contempt of
court case till May 23. A three-member bench headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmed heard the
Contempt of
court case against the PML-N leader for criticising the judiciary.During the course of proceedings,
Talal pleaded with the bench for judicial restraint and drop
Contempt charges against him. His statement was also recorded under Section 342 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).
Talal Chaudhry insisted that he did not make any contemptuous remarks against the judiciary as he himself was a law graduate. His remarks were edited, misinterpreted and taken out of context, he added. Meanwhile, Talal’s counsel argued that the
court could quash the
Contempt of
court proceedings against his client while recording the evidence. Subsequently, the
court directed the accused to
submit the list of defence witnesses and adjourned the case till Wednesday.
