Clearance to
Localize Tumors in Any
Soft Tissue
Endomag, a company with offices in Cambridge, UK and Austin, Texas, won the first FDA
Clearance for a wire-free localisation system that uses an implant that can be placed in any
Soft Tissue and remain there indefinitely. The
Magseed device is used to mark tumor
Tissue identified during imaging exams, be it ultrasound or X-ray. This is because many
Tumors are not palpable and look exactly like healthy tissue, so marking their location helps a surgeon to excise the correct specimen.
The cylindrical implants are only 1 mm x 5 mm in size and don’t emit, nor require the use of, any radiation. A hand-held localizer can spot them with millimeter accuracy and within 30 millimiters from the sensor tip.
Because the devices can be placed at any time before surgery, planning a patient’s treatment process is a lot easier and more flexible.
