Nike laid off part of its Fuelband fitness tracker team and has plans to abandon the corresponding hardware, some considered the an**uncement a
failure in the wearable tech space
The news raised questions that, during a time when
wearables are on an uptick,
Nike was making the unusual move to slash its hardware team and curtail plans to make a**ther fitness tracker. Some saw it as a proactive effort to avoid being squashed by the likely
growth of smartwatches that bake both fitness tracking and smart **tifications (email and phone calls) into one device.
