The
Widening of
bridge on the
Adyar river at Manapakkam by Chennai highways department will turn it from the present four-lane to a six-lane stretch. The 135m-long
bridge will also have a 2m-wide pathway for pedestrians. The project includes structural additions to keep the
bridge stable under a heavier load. Another addition to the
bridge are new streetlights and median. The expansion of the bridge, at a cost of Rs 13 crore, is likely to be completed by mid-January, well ahead of the March deadline. With the 6-lane
bridge over Adyar river, residents are hopeful of less
traffic congestion during peak hours.
