ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has held Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) Chairman Zafar Hijazi responsible for tampering record.
The investigation agency on Sunday submitted its
report in the Supreme Court today. The
report was submitted on behalf of acting DG FIA Captain (retd) Ahmed Latif.
A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court – headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan – had directed the FIA director general to launch an inquiry into the allegations by the JIT that the
SECP had tampered with the records of the Sharifs’ companies.
A four-member committee of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) was constituted to investigate the allegations of
tampering with
record of Security and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) leveled by the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) in its
report submitted to the Supreme Court bench.
The FIA, in its report, says
SECP Chairman Zafar Hijazi passed illegal orders and pressured his subordinates for illegal act of
record tampering.
Ansar Abbasi, Editor Investigation at The News, in on June 30 quoting well informed sources had reported that the JIT’s allegation regarding
record tampering and backdated **ting and signing of SECP’s 2013 documents of Chaudhary Sugar Mills probe in 2016 have been proved correct.
Informed sources were quoted in the
report saying that heads may roll as the
SECP officials though confirm that the probe against Sharifs’ sugar mills was actually dropped in 2013, in one of the two files of the
SECP on the subject the entry of the closure of the Chaudhry Sugar Mill was signed backdated in June 2016.
These sources reveal that as the backdated signing of documents has been proved beyond any shadow of doubt, the top bosses of the
SECP are divided as they accuse one a**ther of doing this illegality.
Some senior officials of the
SECP are considering filing their statements before the apex court. Sources said that the
SECP Chairman may also file his statement before the Supreme Court.
These sources said that the incumbent
SECP Chairman insists that he is **t involved in all this but those officials who signed the backdated document allege that they did it following the chairman’s pressure.
