ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regularity Authority (PEMRA) Chairman Absar Alam has said that the staff of the media watchdog was receiving threats, urging the authorities concerned to provide security to them.
Addressing media men here on Monday, he said that
Pemra officials were receiving threatening
calls and added that the matter should be investigated. Lives of my
staff are
under threat.
under these conditions, it is very difficult to continue work, he added.
He went on to say that work of
Pemra was **w dependent on high courts. I have requested the
chief Justice through a letter to take **tice of such cases immediately, he added.
On the occasion, Alam played audio recording of a threatening phone call received by one of his staffer after a TV channel was taken off air.
The media watchdog had initiated action 357 times over various matters, Alam said and added that out of which 337 were challenged in court.
