What you're seeing is ** optical illusion — it's just
lake Hillier, a naturally
pink body of water with only one form of life beneath its
mysterious and beautiful surface.
The
lake is on Middle Island off the Esperance Coast in Western Australia and
puzzled scientists for decades with its proclivity for pinkish hues. It was only a matter of time however before the reason for the lake's colouring was revealed.*
Within the waters of
lake Hillier live microorganisms called Dunaliella Salina. These organisms, which are the only form of life in the lake, use the salt present in the water to create a red dye.
