ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is organising the first ever
seminar for creation of “Saarc Nations Anti-
corruption Forum” from September 25-27, 2016 at Islamabad to initiate a strategic dialogue among
Saarc countries to strengthen cooperation and to join together in the
fight against corruption.
“The themes of the
Saarc countries seminar will be discussion on causes of
corruption in South Asia, exchange of ideas/experiences to reduce the prevailing situation of corruption, steps taken by the
Saarc countries to eradicate
corruption from South Asia and
efforts made to create awareness among people about the ill effect of
corruption and to provide an opportunity to all
Saarc countries to
fight against
corruption which is one of the major hurdles in the way of progress and prosperity of the region,” said Chairman NAB Qamar Zaman Chaudhry while making statement on theme of seminar.
He said that discussion on enforcement (investigation) and prosecution, international cooperation, assets recovery, technical assistance and information sharing will also take place in order to formulate joint strategy in consultation with all the
Saarc countries for creation of “Saarc Nations Anti-Corruption Forum” in order to
fight corruption on the basis of best practices and lessons learnt
The Government of Pakistan has approved holding of first
Saarc seminar at Islamabad.Afghanistan, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Sri Lanka and India including Secretary General
Saarc have sent their consent to attend the first ever such seminar.
The NAB has sent the proposal for establishing the regional Anti-Corruption organisation to the
Saarc countries and received a positive reply from the
Saarc countries.After receiving positive response, the NAB has speeded up its efforts for the establishment of the regional Anti-Corruption Organization and offered for the establishment of anti-corruption secretariat for the proposed
Saarc regional organisation.
