LAHORE: The Supreme Court on Friday ordered the Punjab
food Authority to take stringent
action against all
companies involved in production of
substandard food, poorly packed milk and loose milk.
A two-judge bench led by senior puisne judge Justice Mian Saqib Nisar issued these directions while hearing a suo motu **tice
against the sale of
substandard food, adulterated milk and contaminated water by local companies.
The bench observed that the
companies involved in illegal business did **t deserve any favour and
strict action should be taken
against them. “If there had been my own brother to request on behalf of any accused-company, I would have sent him to jail,” remarked Justice Saqib Nisar.
The bench also admired the Punjab
food Authority Director (Operations) Ayesha Mumtaz for launching a *****down
against companies manufacturing poor and
substandard food in the province.
The SC also directed the authority to take
strict action against two
companies manufacturing milk products. On the previous hearing, the Livestock department submitted reports regarding contaminated water and adulterated packed-milk.
Barrister Zafarullah Khan, the lawyer who had challenged the sale of poor water and
substandard milk, objected to the reports saying that reports of the livestock department were five years old. He said the reports also carried many examples of contaminated water, unhygienic and poorly packed milk. He said, so far, **
action was taken by the authorities concerned.
