Illegal appointments, irregularities
CHARSADDA: The academic staff of the
Bacha Khan University (BKU) on Wednesday staged
protest against Vice-Chancellor Fazalur Rahim Marwat for his alleged involvement in corruption and irregularities.
The
protest was organised by the
Bacha Khan University teachers Association (BUTA) at the
University campus. The protesters were holding banners and placards inscribed with slogans
against the vice-chancellor.
Speaking on the occasion, Shakil Ahmed, the association’s president, said the law-enforcement agencies had held Vice-Chancellor Fazalur Rahim Marwat responsible for the losses of human lives in the terrorist attack on the university, but he was given an extension in service instead of being sacked. “The vice chancellor appointed his son as an ******r in BPS-17 at the
University and promoted a junior clerk to BPS-17 in violation of merit,” he claimed.
He alleged that the vice-chancellor had posted his favourite persons on more than one post. “These persons are getting salaries of all positions they are holding,” he alleged.
Shakil Ahmed said that junior officials were posted on senior positions, adding that acting registrar Hamid
Khan had been working on the position illegally for the last four years. “Hamid
Khan has appointed his fiancée as warden
against merit,” he claimed.
He also claimed that Higher Education Commission had declared most of the affiliated colleges and institutes of the
University as illegal. “The future of more than 1,000 students who are registered at these educational institutions is at stake,” he added.
He demanded judicial inquiry into the attack on the
University and asked the government to direct National Accountability Bureau and Anti-Corruption Department to investigate the irregularities.
The protesting
teachers warned of staging a
protest rally outside the provincial assembly building in Peshawar if action was **t taken
against the vice-chancellor.
Vice-Chancellor Fazalur Rahim Marwat told The News that foolproof security measures had been taken for the university. He added that two officials who had been appointed
against merit had been dismissed from service. He also welcomed the demand for inquiry into appointment of registrar and his fiancée, saying that an inquiry would make everything clear.
