Masimo’s
Smaller Disposable Acoustic Respiration Sensor Cleared in Europe
Masimo won European regulatory clearance for its new RAS-45 single use
Acoustic Respiration Sensor that’s used with the company’s rainbow
Acoustic Monitoring tech**logy. The *****-like device is attached to the skin on the neck and plugged into a compatible Masimo patient monitor. From there, signal processing software is used to identify each breath and a live measurement, as well as the running waveform, is continuously displayed on the screen.
The new
Sensor is
Smaller than the previously available RAS-125c, making it a bit more convenient and comfortable for the patients, but Masimo claims it has the same performance characteristics of its larger sibling. The
Smaller Sensor should be more appropriate for pediatric patients, as the tech**logy is approved for use on those weighing as little as 10 kilos.
